The hinge mechanism connecting the lid to the chest is weak and only worked for about a month before tearing out the screws on one side. I had to remove all of the hinges and the slow spring release levers, and now have to just lift top off when opening the chest. I used it very gently, so the breakage was not due to rough treatment. It is a cheap design for connecting the lid. It is too late to return, so I will live with it, but I would recommend NOT buying this product.
