Transform Flea Market Finds with Krylon
We gave a much needed Krylon® COVERMAXX® makeover to some eclectic finds!
When you restore a piece of furniture or decor, you want to use the best products available to enhance the antique. That's why Wayfair's editors love Krylon® COVERMAXX® spray paints, which act as both a primer and paint and work with wood, metal, wicker, plastic, glass, and ceramic. With a speedy dry time (10 minutes to touch, one hour to handle), premium coverage, and superior colour, you will love Krylon, too!
Frame Makeover
Before:
We found some ornate vintage frames at a flea market that needed a little TLC. The frames' paint was mismatched, chipped, and uneven, but their beautiful carved wood patterns needed to be saved and shown off. With Krylon® COVERMAXX® spray paint, we spruced them up!
Tip! Get your work area ready by covering it with a drop cloth. We recommend having gloves, painter's tape, and sandpaper on hand.
After:
1) Use fine grit sandpaper for an even finish. Wipe clean.
2) Paint frames with Krylon® COVERMAXX® in Dover White - in 10 minutes the frames will be dry enough to handle!
3) We finished the last frame with Krylon® Gold Metallic spray.
Tip! We layered the frames on a fireplace mantel with other traditional decor items, like eclectic candle holders and an antique brass megaphone.
End Table Makeover
Before:
We found a pair of mid-century modern end tables with unique asymmetrical shelves and angled legs. Unfortunately, these also came with their fair share of scuff marks, chips, and dings.
Tip! For wood furniture with deep dents or scratches, try a carpenter's wood filler with a palette knife. After it dries, sand away the excess.
After:
1) Start with medium grit then with fine grit sandpaper. Wipe clean.
2) With even back-and-forth strokes, spray Krylon® COVERMAXX® in Satin Ivory.
3) After dry to touch and within recoat window, either within 4 hours or after 24 hours, spray second coat where necessary.
Tip! Add some flair to the bottom of table legs. We used painter's tape to make a crisp clean line then sprayed Krylon® Gold Metallic paint.
Vintage Trophy Makeover
Before:
These old-school trophies sparked our imaginations! We immediately envisioned a graphic display featuring their cool shapes and sizes. If you see items at the flea market that have interesting shapes but need a makeover, consider transforming them with spray paint!
Tip! For flea market finds, we recommend a good cleaning before you paint them. A sponge with hot soapy water got all the dirt off of these trophies.
After:
1) Clean trophies, then decide on a colour palette.
2) Lay trophies front side-up flat on drop cloth and spray with paint. Wait 10 minutes to stand up and spray the back.
3) We used Krylon® COVERMAXX® in Gloss Pewter Grey, Satin Catalina Mist, Satin Ballet Slipper, and Gold Metallic.
Tip! When arranging decorative items like these trophies, move the tallest pieces to the back, and work your way forward. Pay attention to the style and colour, so the look is polished and unpatterned.
