String Lights

Cityville on 9th Apartments in Des Moines, Iowa is one of the many projects where we partnered up with the Hubbell Realty Company. The location is ideal for residents looking for entertainment and culture! We were privileged to work on designing the exterior with several local artisans to pull elements of the interior design to the exterior in order to blend both areas together. All of the natural materials and bright colors bring an uplifting and lively atmosphere to the space. We find that the string lights above the space not only provide soft light to extend entertaining time well into the evening, but also give the patio a very relaxed and comfortable feel. The use of the string lights here really helps define the space making it more intimate and cozy. A combination of multiple vendors' furniture pieces and greenery pulls the spaces together. We love seeing the residents enjoy the new patio space!

We fell in love with fairy lights! We bought them around the holidays and I thought they'd get put away, but there is always somewhere I end up wanting to use them. They've been on a small tree at the holidays, and tucked in a spring button garland on the mantel. Now, we're ready for summer and decided to add them to our painted sand-dollar tree! We had a great time picking up sand-dollars on the beach and decided to paint them with watercolors on a whim. They have a lovely way of soaking up the paint and we just kept painting and painting with no idea what I'd do with them once we got home. With warm weather and days at the beach around the corner, I thought we might feature the sand-dollars a bit in our decor. Adding the string lighting really brings the drama and draws the eye!

Our backyard is our oasis: we spend a lot of time out there, particularly in the evenings. We have globe string lights set on a timer, so as soon as the sun starts setting, the lights come on. This strand of lights extends right into our hangout area as well, which is attached to the garden, offering a soft subtle backdrop to the evenings activities.

We've been using the popular Edison bulb string lights to set the mood in our pergola overhead, as well as above our deck and patio area strung between a large tree and our shed. The patio string lights provide just the right amount of light when the sky falls dark and they are durable, already withstanding a cold winter in the Northeast. I love the industrial look of this large bulb that provides soft light making it an easy place to gravitate toward to keep the conversation going all night long. We've also added a few twinkle string lights in our evergreen bushes near the deck for added sparkle.
