3 Creative DIY Planters

Show off your favourite plants in style with these interesting planter ideas.

Vintage Book Planter

  • Create an eye-catching display with a vintage book planter. First, glue the edges of the book pages together to secure.
  • Open up the book and cut out a rectangular section inside about 1 1/2 inches down with a craft knife. Cut holes all the way through for drainage (or skip this step if planting a cactus).
  • Line the inside with parchment paper and add the plant. Finish the look by keeping the edges of the parchment paper visible.

Tip!

Make sure to use a book that's at least three inches thick, or get the look with a book storage box!

Burlap Planter

  • Dress up a plastic planter or put plants in burlap for a bio-degradable option that can also be planted directly in the ground.
  • Place a plant on the centre of the burlap fabric, and cut out a square of burlap to fit the base of the plant.
  • Gather edges around the base of the plant and secure with twine. Cut off any extra burlap at the top to fit the planter.

Tip!
Alternative! For a more streamlined look, cut a rectangular burlap shape, hold in half, and sew the two sides together. Turn right side out and and roll down edges.

Cacti Planter Cans

  • Make these easy planters in minutes with just a few supplies and some extra cans.
  • Remove any existing labels, then use a hammer and nail to punch holes in the bottom of the can for drainage.
  • Cut out craft or scrapbook paper to fit the height and diameter of the can. Cover the can with Mod Podge, wrap paper around the can, then add another coat of Mod Podge on top.
