Give Old Frames a New Look

Give an old, wooden frame new life by customizing it. Paint the color of your frame to better match the photo or artwork inside. As you change out the artwork or as your style changes, repaint the frame to better suit the feel of your space. If you are looking for a frame with a natural finish, use wood stain on the wooden frame instead of paint. For a vibrant addition to your wall, lay out tape in your desired pattern and paint over the tape to create a fun, patterned look.

For this project, you’ll need a wooden frame, a paintbrush, painter’s tape, and acrylic paint in your favorite color. Take the glass out of the frame before painting so you don’t have to worry about smudging, and use painter’s tape on any section where you don’t want paint. Use light layers of paint so it will dry quickly and won’t clump. Depending on color preference, you will need roughly two to three coats of paint. Be sure the paint is completely dry before adding a photograph or art print inside.

Differentiate Your Planters with Paint

Define your planters with a boost of color. Not only will it draw the eye to your plants, but it will help give you an idea of what is growing inside. Group together similar plants that call for the same care, letting you keep up with what is growing on your patio or porch. Change the color of the entire planter or add a fun fruit or vegetable pattern with outdoor acrylic paint or spray paint to give the planter a new look while making your gardening tasks easier. To add a pattern, use painter’s tape and your favorite acrylic paint to add stripes or patterns to the planter. Let the planter dry completely before moving it outdoors to ensure dirt and dust particles don’t dry on the paint.

Create Chic Vases

Put an empty wine bottle to good use by turning it into a chic flower vase. Use warm, soapy water to remove the wine label and viola! – a vase. Customize the wine bottle by adding rubber bands in different thickness and angles. Once you feel that you have enough rubber bands on the bottle, spray-paint the bottle a metallic silver (or any color!) to add a touch of glam to your space. When the spray paint dries, remove the rubber bands to reveal the fun stripes on the bottle.

Paint a Masterpiece

Pull out the easel and let the kids get creative with their imaginations. Leave out different paint tools (like paintbrushes and sponges) to let them create different textures within their painting. If your child is having trouble getting started, make up fun assignments for them like a self portrait or family portrait. This will give them a starting point to get creative and make for the perfect refrigerator addition. Opt for a double-sided easel to let their painting dry while they draw on the chalkboard on the other side. Don’t forget to give them an apron and lay down an extra sheet or tarp to keep things clean while they are creating their masterpiece.
