Portable Fan Sizes: Which Should You Choose?
Keep your space cool.
While there is nothing like enjoying the warm weather after those long winter months, the heat can sometimes get a little intense. If you want to spend more time feeling comfortable and are considering buying a portable fan, then keep reading to find out how to choose the right size to effectively cool your space.
Portable Fan Sizes
Choosing the right fan size is important since you want it to cool the area as effectively as possible. A fan that is too small won't make much of a difference, while one that is too large may make it feel like you are blowing away! Below are the four portable fan sizes you can choose from:
Mini Portable Fans
Mini portable fans measure 12" or less and are made for personal use. Mini fans are ideal for those on the go, while tabletop options can be great for targeted cooling. Clip-on designs can be attached to a desk or nightstand for cooling indoor spaces or placed in a car to supplement your air conditioning and boost circulation. When using a mini fan, you can ensure the airflow is directed at you for a personalized cooling experience.

Small Portable Fans
These portable fans are slightly bigger than mini fans, ranging between 12" and 18" tall, and are also better suited for close-range cooling since they affect only a few feet of air around the user. Fans of this size take up limited space and are usually good for small bedrooms and home offices. Many small fans plug into an outlet, although there are still battery-operated models in this size range too.
Tip!
Mini and small battery-operated fans are fantastic to take with you as you move around the house (and even outdoors) because you don't have to worry about an outlet.
Medium Portable Fans
Ranging between 19" and 35" tall, medium-size portable fans are designed to cool larger areas like standard living rooms and garages, and can even be taken outdoors for an enjoyable alfresco experience. Both tower fans (which are tall and narrow and sit on the floor) and box fans (which are box-like and can be placed on the floor or table) fall into this size range, taking up more space in your home but also providing a greater flow of cool air.
Large Portable Fans
Large portable fans 35" and taller have the capacity to cool down medium kitchens, dining rooms, and bedrooms. Tower and pedestal fans (which consist of a fan head mounted on a long adjustable pole) are commonly found in this size. Though they take up the most floor space, large fans provide ample airflow to effectively cool your space.
Tip!
Remember, the bigger the space, the larger the fan will need to be. If your fan isn't cooling the room effectively, you would likely benefit from more than one portable fan to cover more area. Alternatively, an air conditioner might be better for more effective cooling.
