Stunning Front Entryway Ideas: Before & After

A chic space is possible.

An entryway should be functional and inviting. It helps add personality and decor to your foyer while helping to add function to the room. Our sample homeowners recently purchased a neocolonial house, but their two-story entryway lacked the welcoming factor despite its potential. They decided to renovate their entryway to give them their desired look, helping to create a memorable entrance to their home. Read on to see how our sample homeowners revamped their entryway with this beautiful front entryway idea.

Hardwood Flooring

Changing the floor of your entrance can make impact on the overall look and feel of the small space. For the homeowners, the biggest transformation came from all-new hardwood flooring installed on the entire first floor along with fresh white paint on every wall, door, baseboard, etc. Previously, the small entryway was visually cut off from the living room because of different flooring types. Keeping the floor the same throughout the entire living area created a clean, continuous appearance, making the space appear larger. To add texture to the foyer, opt for a rug to place over the hardwood floor.

Doorways

To add a dose of drama to the space, the front door was painted black on both sides. Black paint is a low-cost, high-impact way to update any space; it works especially well in small doses such as on staircases, powder rooms, or doors. Painting the front door black brought attention to the decorative beveled glass window, tying the two contrasting elements together in an interesting way for an eye-catching first impression.

Besides new paint, all other doors in the entryway were updated with new doorknobs and door hinges – both in a matte black finish. Although the installation process was quite simple and fairly straightforward, it’s a project that tends to be a bit time-consuming. However, new hardware is yet another low-cost, high-impact way to update a room and will enhance the overall interior design of the space.

Accent Tables

Because of its unusual layout, the entryway didn’t have enough space for a full-size console table. However, a small corner nook on the other side of the coat closet prompted these homeowners to search for an accent table that could serve as a catchall. They sourced a black demilune table that was 23 inches long and 10 inches deep – small enough to fit in the nook and big enough to serve as a drop zone for keys, wallets, and other accessories, just like a console table. The demilune shape was chosen specifically to highlight the arched front door, because repeating the same element throughout the house creates a sense of rhythm, making the element feel intentional. The dark finish of the table was the perfect backdrop for a decorative element or two, like the beautiful, thrifted marble ashtray that helps organize clutter and houses everyone’s keys

Tip!

If you are stuck on decorating ideas, consider wall art. It helps add bold color and style to the small space. The couple hung two black-and-white photos of ballerinas on the wall above the demilune table – a topic that holds special meaning for the family and serves as a great conversation starter for visitors.

Lighting

Above the artwork, the homeowners decided to a chandelier above the two-story entryway for additional mood lighting. This statement chandelier mimics the fluid arches found throughout the house and adds an eye-catching statement piece to the small entryway.
