Toaster Oven Sizes & Dimensions to Know for Your Kitchen
Capacity vs. counterspace.
Toaster ovens are versatile countertop appliances that combine the functions of a toaster and convection oven to bring small but mighty cooking capabilities to your home. It’s important that an appliance suits both your space and cooking needs, so here’s how to determine the right toaster oven size for your kitchen.
Toaster Oven Dimensions & How to Measure Them
Before buying a new appliance, it’s important to consider the available counter space in your kitchen where you plan to house your toaster oven. Choose a space on your counter near a power outlet and use a tape measure to measure the area. This will help you determine the maximum measurements for the exterior width, depth, and height of your new toaster oven.
As small electric countertop appliances, toaster ovens typically measure 17" wide. Keep in mind that toaster ovens require at least 4" – 6" of clearance on each side and at least 12" above them for proper ventilation and safe operation. Post-purchase, check the manual of your specific appliance for spacing requirements.

Common Toaster Oven Sizes & Cooking Capacities
Toaster ovens are also commonly measured by their internal cooking capacity, which is usually listed in cubic feet. They can have an internal capacity from as small as 0.3 cubic feet to as large as 1 cubic foot. You’ll often see the cooking capacity of toaster ovens described in terms of how many slices of toast or what size pizza they can accommodate. This can be a helpful metric to consider when deciding on the best size toaster oven for your household.
Mini: Mini toaster ovens usually fit one or two slices of regular bread and are best suited for kitchenettes or small kitchens with minimal counter space. This is a great appliance for individual use if you live alone.
Small: Small toaster ovens have slightly more capacity and can fit two to four slices of bread – perfect for a household of one or two people. The size is suitable for average kitchens and gives you additional cooking capacity without a large footprint.
Large: Fit for a small family, large toasters can generally make four to six pieces of toast at once. They require more counter space than a small or mini toaster oven, but can be used to cook a larger variety of foods due to the increased cooking capacity.
Extra-Large: Extra-large toaster ovens are needed for toasting six or more pieces of bread, as well as other foods like pizzas or small roasts. If you have a large family or like to entertain guests frequently, you might consider an extra-large toaster oven, but be prepared for it to take up more counter space.
