I ordered these chair mats recently and was a little surprised that they felt pretty cold when they arrived. If you’re ordering during the winter, I’d recommend letting them sit at room temperature for a while before unrolling them. Once they warmed up and I followed the instructions, they flattened out without any issues. So far they’ve been working really well. My chair glides smoothly on the carpet now, which is a big improvement from before. They also look nice and are easy to wipe clean, so maintenance has been simple. This is a chair mat for high-pile carpets, and the weight of this product certainly suggests that it is -- it's a beast. If you're planning on bringing it upstairs and you're not sure you'll have the strength, get someone to help you. It's not only heavy, but also wide, giving you a leverage problem with your two arms. This replaces an old ES Robbins chair mat of the same size that was for medium-pile carpets, and that one was so much lighter than this new one. However, my old medium-pile mat cracked and rendered itself unusable after three years of use. I have higher hopes for this one, given its heft. That being said, I am surprised that when I do sit on it in one spot for a little while, it does deform under my chair casters a little bit. So only time will tell how long it lasts. I bought the 46 × 60", the largest one. Although the product description says that it is 46" wide, it is closer to 45¾" wide. My last 46" ES Robbins product was 45½". I think this is a deliberate design choice to allow a little leeway. The feet are apparently designed to grip carpet but not hurt your fingers. I believe that they work as designed. They didn't hurt my fingers like other mats I've tried, and if this mat is like my last ES Robbins product, it won't budge once in place. As many other reviews would attest, unrolling this thing was a pain, and I can see why the 70-year-old woman two reviews before mine couldn't unroll it. The 46 × 60" came in a box 46" tall (the mat width) × 10" × 10". You can imagine how wound-up a 60" deep mat would have to be to fit inside a box like that. Opening it with brute strength is difficult. A sheet of guidelines comes in the box explaining how to unroll and care for it. They say you need to give it 24 hours to come to room temperature before unrolling it (assuming outside is colder, I guess), and that trying to unroll a cold mat will cause it to crack. They say you can expose it to direct sunlight to warm it up, or you can use a hair dryer, but don't expose it to extreme heat or you'll invalidate the warranty. The way I did it was to hold it down with my feet and unroll it slowly with my arms (if you don't feel you're up to the task, get one or two friends to help you), and then pin it under something like a sofa. Then, using my legs and body weight (which are a lot stronger than my arms), I slowly pushed it back with my feet and wedged an object in the roll to keep it from curling back. Fortunately, when you unroll it and hold it in position for a few minutes, it does not tend to roll back the way it was. The whole process took a few hours, at which point I pinned it at the corners under two chairs and a coffee table. After pulling it out the next day, it was flat. While the process worked in the end, it was a major pain in the ---, and that's why I gave this product four stars instead of five. They said they roll it up for "economical and timely delivery," but I don't buy that. I've bought plenty of artwork and picture frames in large, slender boxes. I don't see any reason this couldn't come in a similar form factor. In summary, I do think this is a quality product. It's expensive, but it's made in the USA, and sometimes, you get what you pay for. This is a very nice office chair mat to protect my hardwood floor. I used to buy the see-through plastic mats for the chair to roll around on, but decided to try Wayfair's suggestion in regards to this type of mat. I'm glad I did. It came in square packaging, and unfolded easily. Any creases came out almost immediately and it lays flat all over, corners too! My rolling office chair damaged my Brazilian cherry hardwood floors. So I knew it was time to buy a chair mat. My sister has an Anji Mountain chair mat and recommended the brand. I initially didn’t want to pay that much so I ordered a $30 mat from another retailer, which I returned. Compared to this Anji Mountain rug pad, the $30 gray and white mat was flimsy and arrived with many more creases from where it was folded. Plus, the color didn't work in my space. This Anji Mountain rug pad is folded once and quite sturdy. My chair easily rolls over it. My desk is visible from my dining and living rooms. I searched hard for a beige or cream rug pad that would complement the colors in my living room but couldn’t find anything that exactly matched my criteria. Wayfair customer service searched for me too and offered up several suggestions, including this one. This one is gray but the lighter stripes are greige, so it appears warmer.
