The up-down handle is purely decorative ???? I would never have ordered this product, had this been disclosed prior to assembly! When I lift the barstool, to move it, top and bottom parts, of the metal column separate with a loud clank. The seat is lovely, and the swivel works great, however, this was not a good investment for me
