Real wood and comes as a unit - no assembly! Very sturdy, my preschooler sits on it end keeps her shoes in it. I bought it in ages sage and really like it. Based on another review, I also bought the Bar Harbor fabric baskets and they fit perfectly and look nice

This bench is a great shoe organizer and catchall for backpacks/bags. I also bought 3 Bar Harbor Fabric Baskets for my kids' shoes. It is solid wood, came with touch up paint, and hasn't tipped over once with my toddler crawling all over it.
