Overall these were a solid purchase. But the other reviews are truthful in the fact the chairs can be lighter or darker in coloring so they are consistently the same, the roughness people are referring to is on the back rest part of the chair not the seat part and it’s not splintery just definitely rougher then the rest of the chair.
