Jana Bek: Master Bath Makeover Part 1

See the beginnings of one designer's master bathroom makeover!

When Wayfair reached out to see if I had an interest in partnering with them and Kohler to update a bath in our home, you better believe there was a lot of jumping for joy and dancing around! My husband was equally estatic, and we knew immediately our master bath would be the space to renovate.

Our master bath is a very sorry sight. We've wanted to update it for years but every other room took priority. When we moved in (over five years ago) it was painted a sad, peachy pink and it was only last year that we got around to painting it. I think that shows you how low it was on our list!

As an interior designer, it pains me to show you the before photos, but I guess the worse the befores, the better the afters, right? Check out the below layout and above photos to see what we're working with.

Yikes, right? Let's rid the memory of my sad bathroom with some pretty planning and inspiration imagery. If you're unfamiliar with my aesthetic, I love colour and pattern, here's a peak at the adjoining bedroom to illustrate:

My bright, bold taste aside, I want our master bath to be an ethereal refuge so the palette is going to be a lot of white and grey, and potentially a few subtle colour pops through accents.

I find it very helpful to choose your hardware first before designing a bathroom. In doing so, you have a reference point for the style of all other pieces. I've had my eye on Kohler's Artifacts collection since it came out a few years ago, so I knew it would be the perfect fit for our master bath. The pieces have a vintage, yet timeless look.

Bathrooms can look dated all too quickly with trendy hardware or finishes. The classic elegance of the Artifacts fixtures will ensure our bathroom looks beautiful for many years to come.

I hope this initial planning has got you excited to follow along on our master bath makeover! Over the next few months I'll be going further in depth with our plans and item selections and giving you a first hand look at our process. We are doing a lot of the work ourselves so we'll be sure to share all of our tips and learnings with you. Wish us luck in this awesome endeavour!
