• This is not a basin. It is a spillway for a pond.
• The basin reservoir cubic foot capacity is not based on the spillway box. Rather the recommended reservoir capacity is based on the gallons of water that is in motion x 2.5. To calculate gallons of 'water in motion' you must first determine the total square foot of surface area of your waterfalls plus elevation drop, stream plus elevation drop, and any upper pools that may be built in the stream that eventually spill into the basin. Here is the formula: • Step 1 - Waterfalls: width x length of drop = sq. ft. of surface area. • Step 2 - Stream: average width x (length + elevation) = sq.ft. of surface area. • Step 3 - Upper-pools in stream: width x length = sq. ft. of surface area. • Step 4 - Add sq. ft. of the surface area of steps 1 through 3 together and that is the total sq. ft. of water in motion. • Step 5 - Multiply total square foot water in motion x 0.25 = cu. ft. water in motion. • Step 6 - Multiply cu. ft. water in motion x 7.48 (gallons of water / cu. ft.) = total gallons of water in motion. • Step 7 - Multiply gallons of water in motion x 2.5 = recommended basin holding capacity in gallons of water. One cubic foot of area holds 7.48 gallons of water.
