This rug has a very distinct texture the tufting is intense to the extent that it feels like you are walking on a sandbar. I think it’s cool in the sense that the feeling you get walking on it mirrors the aesthetic, but it is a choice. If your looking for plush or cushy over nubby choose a different rug.
