4 Reasons You Don’t Need a Finished Basement
It's easier than you'd think.
Often cluttered and overlooked, the basement is filled with hidden potential. To make the most of yours, reimagine the space and transform it with a few easy pieces. Here are four quick ways to get a new look.
1. Add utility shelves and cabinets for a work station.
For easy access to supplies for DIY projects and hobbies, carve out a corner with durable utility storage, a dedicated work bench, and a backless stool.
2. Create a wine cellar with shelves and racks.
Since wine is best stored in a cool dark place, your basement is ideal. Start by adding bookshelves side by side, or hang open shelving from floor to ceiling. Then, fill shelves with wine racks and group similar bottles together.
3. Apply stick-on tile to upgrade the laundry area.
To give basement washer/dryers a laundry-room feel, add peel-and-stick tile in a bright color or pattern to the wall behind the units. If space allows, use a console table for an easy folding surface, and add hampers beneath for sorting.
4. Bring in mats and a bench to build a home gym.
For a dedicated workout area, lay down foam mats to cushion the floor. Next, add an open storage bench to hold gear like free weights, towels, and yoga blocks. For cooling down, keep a mini fridge in a nearby corner for chilled drinks.
