Large Dog Crate Sizes
It is imperative that you choose an appropriately sized crate to make your dog feel happy. Too large and they are more likely to potty or play rather than settling down, too small and they will feel cramped and uncomfortable. You want your pup to have a positive experience with their crate from day one, but since there is no one-size-fits-all with dog crates, you need to correctly measure your dog to find the right one for them.
Why Does Your Dog Need a Crate?
Using a dog crate will help you and your four-legged friend in a number of ways:
- It will help them feel safe as they acclimate to your home.
- It will give them a private space of their own when they need alone time.
- It can make house training easier by providing them with a space that is exclusively theirs.
- It provides a place to keep them safe when you leave the house or at night (if necessary).
- It satisfies their natural instinct to be in a den.
- It provides a place they can use to calm down in a disruptive or overwhelming environment.
- It gives them a familiar place where they can feel a sense of safety when you travel.
- It provides a space for time out when your dog misbehaves.
With the right dog crate size, your pet should have enough space to comfortably lie down, sit, stand, and turn around as they please. If you have a puppy that is still growing, it's a good idea to use a crate with a divider that can extend as they reach their estimated adult measurements. Remember, these sizes are all suggestions and sizing can vary between manufacturers, so be sure to read the dimensions before you make your purchase.

How to Measure for Large Dog Crate Sizes
To correctly estimate the dog crate size for your pet, you need two measurements – their length and height. Use a tape measure and while your dog is standing, note the length from the tip of their nose to the base of their tail. Then, as they are sitting, measure their height from the top of their head down their front legs and to the floor.
From there, allow around 2 to 4 inches on each side so your dog has enough space to stand, sit, and lie without hitting the sides of the crate.
Keep in mind additional space for other things like a dog bed, bowls, and toys.
If your puppy is still growing, you'll want them to grow with the crate – so measure how large you expect your dog to get.
Avoid too much space which can cause accidents.
Now you know how to measure your pup, it's time to browse our impressive collection of large dog crate sizes and find the best one for your four-legged friend.
