This print began with a simple sketch of a poppy. I was drawn to its shape in seed and bloom. For this design, the linework stays loose, a nod to hand-drawn studies rather than botanical precision. I wanted the background’s colour and texture to echo the looseness of the sketched floral, adding depth without distraction. The sketch lines of the floral outline are bold enough to define the form but soft enough to still feel hand-drawn and imperfect. My aim was to select a colour palette that creates a sharper contrast without losing the natural and timeworn element. H. Lively
