An antique hand-knotted South West Anatolian rug from Fethiye whose ancient name was Telmessos and 19th century name was Megri. This lovely rug has a timeless, layered, eclectic quality to it. It has all the classical elements of what would be called a 'city rug' with its elegant curvilinear medallion, decorated corner pieces and a border filled with stylized florals, but at the same time, it has a lighter, breezier and also more quirky feel to it thanks to the fact that its design elements are not too intricate and the way their proportions and arrangement within the entirety of the design are not dissimilar to that of a village rug. There is also a wonderful balance in the drawing of the outlines of the motifs between rectilinear and curvilinear.
