Exactly what we were looking for in this space. It took about 4 hours from box cutting to finish, directions were easy to follow, only had to backtrack once or twice to make sense of something that could have gone 2 ways (the rails). It folds out easily for one person, there is a drawer for pillows/blankets/sheets, and we got a 6" tri-fold memory foam mattress the folds right into the cabinet spot. This is the best idea ever, I love it! I was not thrilled about a dark color so I took fabric and glue gunned it all around the wood pieces after I assembled most of it, their was enough room to do this and it worked great. I used a soft upholstry fabric and also laid batting on the broad surfaces. The mechanism works great and does not shut unless you pull it down. Happy with the purchase. Selected for my guest room to save space and it’s a great looking cabinet. I read the reviews and was prepared for a long assembly time and that held true. By myself total assembly time was around 7 hours. Found it less daunting breaking it up over 2 days. Went with a 10” mattress and slept on for two nights after assembly and found it very comfortable. Make sure you read the assembly instructions very carefully. There were a few times that I almost missed a key point that would have been a problem or a redo had I not caught it. Shipping took a bit longer than I would have expected, but it's a very heavy piece of furniture at 362 pounds and it has to be shipped in four different containers by a freight company. We love the color. It's a neutral gray, so not too brown and not too blue, and the material is solid engineered wood. The directions were good and the hardware is well made and everything fit nicely. It is quite a task to put together, so if you're not experienced it is going to be a challenge. We are experienced, but the only reason we knocked it down from a 5 to a 4 is that no matter what we did - and we followed directions exactly as written - the cabinet would not close completely with the mattress on it. After trying everything we decided to take off the straps that are attached to it, and bend the mattress in half, lie on it to keep it tightly together, and then shut the frame inside. NEVER BUY THIS!!!! Not unless you are a carpenter and can fix the errors in what is sent. The directions have no words so you need to figure everything out. Parts were missing. Predrilled holes were not aligned so I had to redrill holes. Corners were chipped (this is particle board). Hardware for doors needed to be muscled in place. I can go on and on. 4 of us were looking at directions and we needed to "use common sense" to figure it out. Wayfair does not offer professional install. If it did that would make a bit of a difference. Nor does the manufacturer. Also, the manufacturer, when called, does not have all knowledgeable people. Some were and some gave different answers. This bed is awesome. It can be a little time consuming to put together. Getting the panels to align perfectly is a little challenging, but it is very well built and sturdy. This Murphy bed is perfect for our bonus room! It did take 2 people to put together, especially when attaching the front panels to the steel bed frame. Nothing was difficult just took time and patience. We installed in our bonus room and the bed will only get used on big holidays when house is full of family so the quality is perfect for us. If you are using for everyday use be careful not to scratch the surface, it scratches easily. For example if you use the desk and push a chair in too swiftly the white surface may scratch. The lights are a fantastic addition! Especially for the desk use!! I love that we could put art work up behind the bed for when the bed is out. We are very happy with product. The only reason we gave 4 stars is because of the ease of scratching the white surface. Delivery was easy, the truck delivered on a pallet with 3 boxes.
