Its museum/archival quality paint finish ensures there is no out-gassing and that the storage space within each drawer has no acidity or alkalinity (pH) created by the finish. This heavy-duty cabinet is constructed of 20-gauge welded steel with 18-gauge steel drawers to hold up to 50 pounds in each drawer, so you can confidently store up to 500 sheets of active documents, 750 sheets of semi-active documents, or 1000 sheets of inactive documents in each drawer. Hinged paperweights at the front and hoods at the rear of each drawer keep your papers in place and help prevent curling. So far so good. One complaint is that the drawers seemed to slide open and so I put a shim under the front edge, which solved the problem . A full 3/4" was needed to keep the drawers closed. You can tell as you open and shut drawers that the files are not heavy dute, high quality, but I do think they're stable and strong enough and I'm the only person using them, so I will not slam the drawers. I bought two and stacked one on top of the other and used the bolts provided to join them, so no need for a base to lift off floor. And now the top level serves as a table surface for viewing things from the file. Also, very important was that Wayfair offered delivery to any room, even upstairs, for a small fee...I think $20.
